Quilting Bee

Come celebrate the art of quilting-where history, memory, and artistry come together in every stitch! The Quilting Bee, like a Barn Raising, was the opportunity to lighten the load of their labor while also connecting with their community. Not only would work get done and tasty treats be had, but the gossip was sure to fly! Come on out and join us for our day of celebrating all things quilts and quilting, including a display of antique quilts from our archives, demonstrations of quilting, and hands-on activities. *While reservations are not required for general admission, we ask that any quilters who are interested in participating in either the quilting demonstration, showcasing their work, and/or working on personal quilting projects on the farm to please RSVP prior to the event via homeplace.lbl@gmail.com. Planting the Garden

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the last frost date has come and gone. That means its time to get our vegetables into the ground so we can have a bountiful harvest and food for the year! Join us in the garden, weather permitting, as we plant peas, carrots, greens and other vegetables into the plots. The sooner we get these planted the sooner we have fresh produce on the table.

Attention all homeschoolers! Homeschool Day is a day packed full of hands-on STEAM activities to enhance your students' knowledge and understanding of the natural world. This year's theme is Art in Nature! Your students will stretch their artistic skills through activities that combine different art mediums with nature observation, biology, math, and more.

All ages are welcome. A full schedule of programming will be available by April 1st. All activities are included with regular Nature Station admission. No pre-registration is required.

We recommend at least a 2 hour visit to complete all activities. For more information or questions, please contact 270-924-2299.

Volunteer in the Heirloom Garden

Register at https://dash.pointapp.org/events/564445. Join us for Gardening Days at the Homeplace. Just like in the olden days, it takes a community to make our heirloom gardens productive and delicious. While you volunteer, you will get the chance to learn all about heirloom crops, old fashioned gardening techniques, and how the harvests were baked and canned. Although taking care of an old fashioned heirloom garden is lots of fun, it can also be hard work! Volunteers need to be comfortable with walking on uneven ground, working in outdoor conditions, and having limited access to cell phone service. Don't forget to pack a water, some sunscreen, and a snack.

Got any worn out clothes or blankets you're not using any more? Come on down to the farm to learn how to turn those scraps into something beautiful like a quilt. Learn the art of sewing and piecing scraps together in hexagonal shapes to create beautiful scrappy quilts. Also, while you're there take a look around at our other quilts on the farm or if sewing isn't for you grab a quilting coloring sheet and learn some interesting facts about the world of English Paper Piecing.

Mis-snaken Identity: Meet our resident snakes as we learn how to identify a venomous snake and discover what role they play in the ecosystem (11:30am-12:00pm). Hummingbirds 101: Join us for a quick lesson on these little jewels, then step outside into the gardens and watch them flitting about our gardens! (1:30-2:00pm). Sunday Funday Bunny Playtime: Watch as our rabbit reacts to an interesting new food item or an exciting new toy and learn more about how the Nature Station cares for its rescued wildlife through fun enrichment activities! (3:30-4:00pm)

Derby Hat Craft: It's Turtle Derby time! Celebrate Nature Station style by making a hat to wear to today’s Kentucky Turtle Derby (2:00-3:00pm). Kentucky Turtle Derby: “Meet” the contestants, pick your favorite, and cheer for your turtle to cross the finish line. After the winner has claimed victory, you’ll get to meet contestants up close and give the winner a pat on the shell! (3:30-4:00pm)
